Nicholas C. Minshew, Attorney at Law, concentrates his practice in the areas of Family Law including divorce, separation, child support, child custody, alimony, division of property, separation agreements, domestic violence, prenuptial agreements, child support enforcement and modification, Adoption Law and Immigration Law. Mr. Minshew provides legal services to clients in Washington, D.C., and throughout Maryland, including Montgomery County, Frederick County, Prince George's County, and Howard County.The firm focuses on the unique legal issues facing its clients to reach a favorable resolution in each case. In the event a case goes to trial, we will aggressively defend the rights of our clients and advocate in their best interests. If settlement of a client’s legal issues is appropriate without the intervention of the courts, Mr. Minshew will strive to amicably resolve those issues through mediation and negotiation. During Mr. Minshew’s professional career, he has gained substantial experience representing families requiring legal as well as social services. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Minshew earned a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Maryland in 1997. He worked for the domestic violence unit at the Circuit Court for Baltimore City representing victims of domestic violence to obtain protective orders; a non-profit organization providing mental health and rehabilitation services to individuals; and in the Office of Senator Paul Wellstone where he researched and documented domestic violence issues. While working in the Office of Senator Paul Wellstone, Mr. Minshew decided to pursue his career as a lawyer. Mr. Minshew obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the American University, Washington College of Law in 2000, where he was an editor for the Administrative Law Review. After receiving his law degree, Mr. Minshew worked as an associate attorney for the law firms of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and Leonard Street & Deinard representing public utilities in federal proceedings. During that time, Mr. Minshew realized that his passion was representing individuals and families. As a result, he joined a non-profit adoption agency as the Director of International Programs providing international adoption services to prospective adoptive families. Mr. Minshew assisted families to adopt children in countries as far away as Guatemala, Russia and India. With the intention of expanding the scope of his practice, he left the adoption agency and worked as an associate attorney for two of the leading family litigation law firms in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. Mr. Minshew chose to open his own law firm to focus on obtaining favorable results for his clients while providing individualized and cost-effective legal representation, and to pursue his legal interests by expanding and devoting his practice to Family Law, Immigration Law, and Adoption Law.
